Your defence “career” is down to sheer luck, someone leaving a position or dying in it before you can move up, poorly funded courses with qualifications deliberately cut in order to keep you only employable inside defence. You essentially do your “job” qualifications once, then that’s it. You don’t get chances to keep up with relevant industry practices or standards. Your average workday is full of “hurry up and wait” so you can’t even use the average 2-3 hours a day of “nothing” to stay current to industry standards via study. God forbid a senior rank sees you doing something other than waiting for a random task to come down. Defence isn’t a career.
