Chiang Kai-chek and his wife, Mayling Tsoong, rather than spend the cash on weapons and equipment for their Nationalist Army, pocketed it instead. Kai-chek fled with his share, in 1949, to rule Taiwan; Mayling with hers to New York, to live in Park Lane until her death in 2001, aged 100. Corrupt.
