<<@jasonhopkins7120 says : I have a physics degree and MBA and worked out the cost of dispatchable energy expected by 2050 based on AEMO 2024 Integrated System Plan p11, CSIRO 23-24 GenCost report appendix data, US department of energy hydrogen tank cost and one MIT report on nuclear. AEMO say we need 50GW power of dispatchable energy by 2050. For context if we used 75% of capacity and the wholesale price of electricity is $100/MWh the electricity would be worth $34billion/year for 327.6million MWh per year. To dispatch 50GW with batteries for 21days, 90% efficient, the battery cost would be $11.2trillion (not including solar and wind farm and grid improvement costs). To dispatch 50GW with natural gas with carbon capture and storage, the capital cost is $254billion and fuel cost of $100/MWh (not including gas infrastructure for gas and CO2 transport). To dispatch 50GW with hydrogen for 21days, 25% efficiency, the capital cost would be $2.05trillion (not including solar and wind farms and grid improvements). To dispatch with large nuclear, the capital cost would be $396billion with fuel cost of $3/MWh. Note you need 3 times as many solar and wind farms with hydrogen storage compared to battery storage. Also note the cost of batteries (CSIRO), hydrogen equipment (CSIRO), Gas CCS (CSIRO) and large scale nuclear (MIT) is expected to half over the next 10years. Note they have different life expectancies, batteries 10-15 years, nuclear 60-100 years, the others in between. Some say we need 6weeks dispatchable energy storage; some say a week. The AEMO plan for 2035 is to have about 20GW of dispatchable utility storage with rest hydro and gas with no coal.>> <<@joycelynbennetts says : Australia cannot afford not to go forward to nuclear. I have just purchased a petrol generator for when we get rolling black outs under looney labor ideals. Not very green but neither is living in the dark and cold. The long labor remain in power the more costly generators will become. Buy one now!>> <<@dancinguy99 says : Idiot Labor dysfunctional fools don't observe world wide FACTS on electricity generation, supply availablity, reliability or costs. Full time inept informed stupidity. Or is this deliberate to wreck our country. Whichever, they're lying useless incompetent bastards>> <<@savagegfry says : A recent term I heard, from the ex-boss of ANSTO, is that Labor's unreliables only policy, is actually "energy fascism". Further if Labor now admitted that is was wrong, there would be a substantial loss of face and the Greens would go berserk.>> <<@aerotuc says : Prople look at the exlressions on these fat polititans they hate us snd want to continue in fairy land even uf it kills us>> <<@aerotuc says : Labours goons taken us down a very slippery DEAD end road.Where recovery begins once they are up shit creek and we are driving the bulldozers to knock down the solar farms and wind turbines turned to the recycle bins>> <<@NoChannelChannel says : Labor working real hard to increase cost of living, and Trojan horse's will install them back in.>> <<@creationdotcomfan says : Oh darling. Renewables are not controversial in any way. People come to Australia for the sun and you burn coal like it’s the Donbas. You people are nuts on the right.>> <<@toddsmith7199 says : It is funny how the messaging from Labor suddenly changed after the coalition changed energy policy. I haven't heard them talking about being a "renewable energy superpower" anymore or telling the public that energy will be practically free and we are all going to get rich out of renewable energy. Now they are admitting the cost of energy will go up with renewables but argue that it will go up less than it would go up if we went with nuclear. They have been pushed right back on the defensive and the lies have fallen away with just a modicum of resistance.>> <<@GirtByIdiots says : They're going down the renewables road quickly and hard so they can destroy any other form of energy infrastructure we have, knowing they won't be in government long. Then the opposition have no choice but to continue down the same road.>> <<@stanyeaman4824 says : Where’s this nuclear abundance in Australia? It is all quarantined forever in the Kakadu National Park. That was the purpose of the Hawke government in creating the Kakadu NP. It includes the Koongarra and Jabiluka uranium deposits. The only big uranium deposit left is purely as a low-grade byproduct of copper/gold mining at Olympic Dam. If the copper closes, so does the uranium.>> <<@tlb2970 says : Albo and his clowns are going the wrong way, need to turn back before an accident occurs 😂😂😂>> <<@rob6543 says : Net zero will never happen it’s impossible think about it net zero = 0 it can’t happen stop doing everything you know it’s laughable, just enjoy your life and all that you have zero =0 prove me wrong , destroying everything for nothing 0️⃣😊>> <<@ROARTORQUE says : Bring on the EARLY ELECTION 🎉>> <<@gjssjg says : "renewables" is a weasel word for "Sold out to China".>> <<@chop098 says : Nuclear power just doesn't make sense in Australia.
