<<@johngeier8692 says : The current government is copying Germany’s disastrous triple popular delusion based energy policy. Net Zero is prohibitively expensive, impractical and totally unnecessary. We need to withdraw from the ridiculous Paris Accord and simply use the most economical energy resources available. Follow the money trail and you'll see some extremely big brown paper bags handed out to liebor mates .>> <<@positivepawpaw7564 says : As of June 2024, there are 59 nuclear reactors under construction worldwide. China leads with 25 reactors, followed by India with 7, and Turkey and Russia each having 4 reactors under construction. Other countries with ongoing nuclear projects include Bangladesh, Egypt, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, among others. China is building 25,, why ? China has huge amounts of open space for wind arms and solar, they make turbines and solar panels for the world, they still use most of the worlds coal fired power stations. Because they are not stupid like most western countries, they know they cannot produce enough reliable power from renewables. China started construction on approximately 70.2 gigawatts (GW) of new coal power capacity in 2023, which marks an increase from previous years and contrasts sharply with global trends where new coal construction is decreasing. Because they need to produce solar and wind tech for the suckers of the world.>> <<@southernstarreview says : Labor has put EVERYTHING into 'renewables', including their investing wallet. LABOR, and the Greens need to go and get ######!>> <<@imeagleeye1 says : The Insane cost's involved in mining uranium the Highly toxic tailings dams, the underlying cost issues unknown to build said plants. Then 10 thousand years or storage for the used nuclear fuel that is Highly Radioactive Waste and Science still cannot neutralise the Radioactive nature of this even after 82 years of hollow promises that it could. Those connections have (from my experience) a failure rate of ~20% at high voltage. The O ring seals in those connectors regularly retain water, leading to conductivity & eventual fusing the plastic of the connectors together. The connections should always be raised, not sagging low like in that photo. During peak light (and system maximum efficiency) ... if this were to happen above dry grass in the photos... It can absolutely start a fire. Solar is cheap for a reason. Don't waste our countries money. Choose ALP+Green's insane push to a renewables-only non-baseload solution, or choose LNP's sensible push to a nuclear baseload solution mixed with renewables. The former leads us to self-destruction whereas the latter gives us the hope that we won't self-destruct. Let's see at the next election whether Australians are as moronic as I think they are. Their whole argument is about environment so let see just one aspect of environment effect... A typical 1,000-megawatt nuclear facility in the United States needs a little more than 1 square mile to operate. Meanwhile, wind farms require 360 times more land area to produce the same amount of electricity and solar photovoltaic plants require 75 times more space.>> <<@user-ie8ob6vd8x says : It seems the mere suggestion of nuclear energy has increased the emissions of bulldust from the government.>> <<@awc900 says : Fear, uncertainty and doubt is all they have to offer.>> <<@SuzanneStewart-td3wz says : if Bill Gates is backing nuclear makes you wonder where the money is going>> <<@deanhays6115 says : The quickest way to get to net zero ?!???!
