If you're later surprised and "outraged" by the outcome, you're an idiot. I can't speak to Australian policies, because, clearly, the vast majority of the voters there are flat-out loony. But here in the USA we still give lip-service to responsible use of public funds. Unless, of course, you're voting left, in which case money really does grow on trees. We the dwindling tax payers are sick of it all and about ready to just hang it up. Without MASSIVE and SWEEPING spending cuts all over the federal budget, this is a game played at the point of a gun where the only remaining response is: "No more. Jail us. Seize our assets. Whatever. But none of that will put more tax money into your swirling toilet. We do NOT have unlimited deep pockets, and now we're nothing but hamsters on an endlessly-spinning wheel. Just NO more!" If any places deserves to be looked into it is the UQ. They had a fridge hidden away with very expensive bottles of wine/champagne for the VC to hand out to potential contributors. We are talking about thousands per bottle. One went missing and they tried to blame the maintenance staff while trying to keep it hush hush. It was almost comical. Funny considering they are supposedly all socialists. The behaviour at the Saint Lucia Campus verges on criminal. They endanger students and sweep it under the carpet. When you self investigate and insure it is easy to do. They do their own worker's comp investigations and they find in their own favour more often than not. The VC Peter Høj and his staff during Covid hid a Chinese student the university helped return to China against the law at the time and during the height of the pandemic. They hid him in a university owned building outside the university. That was after he returned infected with Covid from his little jaunt. The worst part is they sent a member of the maintenance staff to work on the building while the student was there and did not warn him until after he completed the work of the potential threat. I was told their was more than one but I only knew of one. This is but a few things they did I had direct knowledge of.
