When enough citizens of the Russian Federation reach the state this man has reached, Ukraine will be very close to victory. My inferential projection (posted on my substack back in May) based on an analysis of WWI casualties and adjustment to account for reduced population size and increased standard of living in modern Russian Federation, is that once Russian casualties reach the 1.6 million ballpark, Putin will face such a shift in non-compliance and even dissent, that he will have no choice but to change the way in which he is approaching the war. This would very likely mean an abandonment of offensive activities if not also a withdrawal from at least some occupied territories. Depending on how well the Ukrainian General Staff are tuned in to the coherence and morale of Putin's Orc Horde, Putin may never get such a choice to change course and instead face a front which is collapsing through a combination of mutiny, rout and surrender just as Tsar Nicholas did in 1917. While I should revisit the analysis I did in April 2024 and update it with more recent estimates, based on having kept anecdotally appraised of events since then, I see little sign that such a repeat of that analysis would arrive at a dramatically different conclusion. With the Orc Horde having suffering something like 400,000 casualties in the past year for a rate of something like 33,000 casualties per month (and with ~720,000 currently estimated by the AFU) 1.6 million would come by around January 2027 (assuming that the rate of casualties doesn't accelerate). Given events in the national economy of the Russian Federation (21% prime interest rate; hundreds of thousands of unfilled jobs; the ruble's value progressively dropping; veteran benefits being cut, etc.) I am not sure that the Putin regime will survive long enough for the total casualties to spark the initial embers of revolution in Russia. Going back to Alexander the great he too used his men as cannon fodder, so did the White Guard Generals and Red guard generals . An American military battalion from Michigan a force trained in fighting in the snow and mountains were sent to the Russian far east during that civil war to fight the red guard it was the only time up until now that American forces had ever faced Russia forces. The American commander said he had never seen such disregard for human life on the battle field by an army's own commander towards his own men.
