GOP hasn't won the popular vote since Dubya in 2004, and before that it was HW in 1988. That's only twice in almost 40 years. Hillary even had 3 million more votes than president pumkin in 2016, but not the electoral college votes swing states would have provided. It's hardly democratic process in the US if you're voting for people to vote on your behalf, instead of directly voting for the president or the party.
