I'm not Chilean, but history is so important to all of us. Temples, churches, monuments, whenever you see them lost so completely you can't help but feel that that's an entire history of it's own lost beyond the mere building. An ancient tree can be lost and it hits people on a much deeper level that the loss of mere property. It doesn't even matter how old any one site is, what matters is how old it could've been had it not been lost. There aren't many 1000yr old buildings precisely because of this reason.
