So thousands of square kilometers of Australian fauna and flora will pay the price to keep the flat screen TV's of Singapore on. Additionally have the local Aboriginal folk been consulted to ensure that Ampitji, the rainbow serpent, and Jirakupai, the Crocodile Man, will not be disturbed by the electrical cable as they would have been by Santos' pipeline? Or do they not roam the few kilometers westward from the Tiwi islands to where the electric cable enters the ocean?

Madness, even here at the shallow Northsea with much shorter cables it costs more than nuclear just to build and maintain. It's not only the HVDC cable but also the back to back convertor stations. And those cables fail more often than we hear in the news.
