Battlefield setbacks and US elections have reportedly driven a shift towards talks. European members of NATO increasingly believe in a negotiated end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict that would involve territorial concessions, according to the Washington Post. Discussions behind closed doors have been fueled by the “bleak” battlefield situation for Ukraine and the prospect of U.S. funding drying up when President-elect Trump takes office in January, according to the outlet. While public declarations of support for Kyiv continue, some countries are looking to “lay the foundations” for peace talks, ten current and former EU and NATO diplomats have suggested to the outlet. Military donations in Ukraine plummet as war pressure mounts, Bloomberg reports; Military donations in Ukraine have fallen sharply amid rising financial pressures and war weariness, with major charities reporting drops by 20% or more in 2024, Bloomberg reported on Nov. 13. Russian forces advance on Kurakhove and Pokrovsk in Ukraine's Donetsk region: On November 13th, the newly shared footage from Ukrainian frontlines confirmed Russian control of the village of Ilyinka in the Kurakhovo direction in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Russian military sources shared video of Russian flags waving around the settlement. According to preliminary reports, assault units from the 114th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Yenakievsko-Danube Brigade (former “Vostok” Brigade) of the 51st Army of the Southern Group of troops liberated the village of Ilyinka. The settlement is located on the northern bank of the Kurakhovo water reservoir. Ukrainian forces are losing one stronghold after another rapidly retreating to the west towards Berestky. The Russian army is advancing in several directions on the northern flank of Kurakhovo. After the villages of Stepanovka and Ilyinka came under Russian control, Berestky is the last settlement on the bank of the reservoir where Ukrainian forces are trying to hold defense to slow down Russian advance. Russian forces are also developing their offensive from the north. They completed the mop up operations in Novoselidovka and advanced on the outskirts of Sontsevka. Russian forces are likely to approach the village of Stary Terny located on the western bank of the water reservoir in the coming days. As a result, the Ukrainian grouping risk to be surrounded on the western bank if it does not timely retreat. Russia might intensify assaults in Zaporizhzhia: Ukrainian military officials are warning that Russian forces may intensify assaults in the Zaporizhzhia region in the near future. Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Spokesperson Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn said that Russian forces are moving trained assault groups to forward positions in the liberated Zaporizhzhia region. However, it is unclear if the Russian military intends to conduct a unified offensive operation or separate assaults. Voloshyn specifically said that Russian forces are concentrating near Kamyanske, northwest of Robotyne and south of Zaporizhzhia City, Hulyaipole, which is northeast of Robotyne, and Robotyne itself. Russian forces have increased the number of air strikes in southern Ukraine by 30 to 40% in the past two to three weeks.
