The Democratic Party of today is certainly not the same as the Democratic Party of President Jimmy Carter and Vice President Walter Mondale! In my opinion, the major paradigm shift changes of the Democratic Party started with Janet Reno and the Clinton administration! They wanted to make homosexuality acceptable in the military and Secretary of Defense Les Aspin informed the President that the Pentagon was not pleased nor ready for such dramatic paradigm shift so quickly. They had to compromise with a policy of “Don’t ask. Don’t tell.” This election reminds me of election 1992 in that I couldn’t imagine Governor Clinton defeating incumbent President Bush especially after victory in the Gulf War! Even top Democratic contender NY Governor Mario Cuomo or Texas Senator Lloyd Bentsen thought they could challenge the incumbent President. Now James Carville understands how I felt back on election night 1992! No way in God’s green earth could the American people vote for a man who cheats on his wife and inhaled drugs and dodges selective service and disses his President LBJ… no way would or could he possibly win the presidency! He did! Ross Perot got about 20% of the votes. Bush got about 39% and Governor Clinton got 41% of the popular votes and won over 350 electoral college votes. How did this happen? James Carville knew! “It’s the economy stupid!” And that’s the major reason why the Harris-Walz ticket lost this election also! David Muir asked VP Harris that famous question: are you better off now than you were four years ago? She couldn’t lie. She knew that the answer is no for most Americans! Clearly when the economy is okay, more Americans are willing to tolerate things like LGBTQ, 1619 Project, Critical Race Theory, political correctness… When the economy is weak and more and more people are struggling to survive, perceptions and emotional landscapes change. Donald Trump promises to fix America’s problems and make everyone’s life better.
