It reduces your load on the network and don't have to increase the capacity of the network. Solar panels on its own is not that expensive but adding batteries can make it much more expensive. Batteries come with its own benefits by storing the extra energy for the evening and some other emergencies. Problem with a solar farm is, it is build in a location where you have plenty of sun. But you don't have the infrastructure to connect it to the grid.
