Google Chrome is essentially worthless by itself because any company that buys it would need to remove the "Google" part of the name and would eventually lose market share. Meanwhile, Google could just fork Chromium and create a new browser in a week. Besides that, even if they decide to make Google sell Chromium, maintaining Chromium costs a lot of money and generates no revenue by itself. So, it’s out of the question for most companies to handle the hassle.
