The recurring problem of summer rain disasters in Brazil During the Carnival weekend, the coastal region of the state of São Paulo was hit by a natural disaster caused by heavy rains, floods, and landslides, which destroyed houses, blocked roads, affected provision of supplies and left 48 dead. Although the previous government of Jair Bolsonaro left insufficient resources - around USD 5,000 to enforce countrywide prevention of natural disasters - disasters caused by summer rains in Brazil are recurrent.
