Vini Jr attacked again: time for racism to really end in football?
Brazilian football player Vinicius Jr suffered a racist attack last Sunday during a Real Madrid x Valencia match for the Spanish league. And it's not the first time. At the weekend, in another racist incident, the Brazilian athlete was physically assaulted on the pitch and received racist slurs from supporters in the stadium. After the incident, several authorities came out in defense of the player, including Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who expressed his solidarity with the athlete and asked for measures to be taken. Lula's remarks were echoed by the Spanish prime minister and the president of the Spanish football federation. After the Brazilian government officially complained to the Spanish authorities, the case is taking on diplomatic dimensions. This is not the first time the Brazilian star of Real Madrid and other athletes face racial offenses in Spain and in Europe. But could it finally be the last?
