Farmers unable to fill labour gaps as rift forms in Coalition over agriculture visa
Not every Australian wants to work on a farm but farmers don't have the luxury to "sit around and wait" for someone to come pick their ripened crops, says Agriculture Minister David Littleproud. "When it's ripe it's got to get from their paddock to our plate as quickly as possible," Mr Littleproud told Sky News. He said the Nationals' agriculture visa, which came into effect October 1, was still waiting on bilateral agreement with South-East Asian countries currently in negotiations with Foreign Minister Marise Payne. "We're very confident that very soon she will finalise those bilaterals and in fact we may move onto other countries to expand," Mr Littleproud told Sky News.
