In general, the idea of expelling an elected official is one that I would only apply in the absolutely most serious cases. The idea of expelling a member of Congress is potentially very subversive to democracy.
But I think this is a case that merits it. George Santos basically got into his position under a false identity and deceived his constituents to a degree that they didn't even know who they were voting for. The fact he used his position to commit extensive fraud only bolsters the case against him. His case is so extreme that it really begs an extreme response. I guess his House seat should be vacant until the election next year where hopefully his constituents will be much better served.

I would bet money on the GOP just hoping that they can trust the American public's short attention span to forget about Santos' crimes and lies - that way the party keeps his vote in the House and Santos is forced to vote exactly the way the party wants him to because he's under the threat of expulsion. So for the rest of his term all he'll do is toe the party line and shut up. I do not expect today's Republican Party to give a damn about its own members' corruption, or, frankly, any other matter of principle. They just want to cling on to their razor-thin majority. The days of "character counts" are long gone ... because if "character" did count, half their representatives would be out on their ears - to say nothing of their front-runner for the presidential nomination.
