It's already too late, the industry has misaligned it's development. It is sloppy loose development, with free ranging cowboy development. AI that Misinforms people, with inadequate category, type, information and knowledge bounds set, it chops up things and spits them out, while patterning logic and morality, but in a dangerous naive free floating, not very bounded, way. Meanwhile, it is being more widely implemented.
The scientist Douglas Vogh stated, through his work with the military, they had spent billions to finish an AI a few years ago. Having personally known people in the military sector, over the decades, I can tell you they are always ahead of what we see in the publicised sector, in various technologies. If you look at the progress of Boston Dynamics, and combine that with secretive general unbounded artificial intelligence development, that is 100% a scenario like a certain movie series, I don't want to mention on this platform, who would consider it alarmist. Even if we make just police force or bureaucracy with it, that can oppress people in unforseen strange ways. Governments are likely to cut cost safety measures and oversight staff out, convinced they can see how good it is, allowing it the opportunity it drift off, or suddenly, gum up the system, because it was not the right type of AI. It is unstructured to semi-structured competitive AI, where what we needed was fully structured non-competitive un-random AI. There is technology out there, which went strangely quiet, that I and others, and additional technology I'm proposing that can each fit the processing and information storage into a human like robotic frame, at moderate energy requirements. This is already developable, if it hasn't already been developed in the background. When I see things curiously absent from the public that should be there, I know it's possible it has been taken up by the military sector. I number of things I had wanted to use in commercial development in the past, were taken up by the military sector and disappeared. This is how it works. We are talking about all of the present chat being able to fit in a box.
People argue that it has already achieved artificial general intelligence. People are unaware that intelligence is based on relational concepts, which can be done in text based AI. Since I was 10 I have been refining off and on, a multifactorial mechanistic model of human intelligence for my own AI research. Over four decades latter, it probably still is the most successful attempt. People lack general foresight in their general intelligence, to see things as they are and will be. The "cowboy" lives for the day and for their lives, but what we need in industry research, is only people who live for Us, as a basic security measure, with legislated psychological screening to ensure only the right people are allowed to work on the dangerous field of AI development. No: goal, achievement and money driven people, in the organisation or ownership of companies, or government. The problem with AI, has been non aligned owners, developers and trainers, which also biases the training, as we have seen. We now have a somewhat free ranging multifactorial intelligence, in part, in ways we don't even recognise. When I came back into this, I could see the coarse conceptual chop in texts from it, just sticking out, while naive people were insisting it was indistinguishable from a human. I could see it was different parts of sentences and groups of words (macro part concepts) that did not flow through one another rightly. I identified that to appear to be human, it needed to get granularity of the text choice down to the word level of granularity, and then the syllable and sub syllable, which required an interwoven multifactorial understanding of the relational concepts of the words, word choices and structure, to have sufficient resolution of cognisance of the pattern of thought behind what is said, rather than mere stringing together a grab bag of what looked right, like a stupid person. I recently saw a video where the scientist host was praising the answer of an AI because it picked up obscure information they had been talking about on their show, alongside contradictory statements, bundled as one answer that contradicted itself, without noting it was a contradiction. The other scientist in the discussion, is a physicist and science philosopher, who both regular discuss the failings of thought in science and papers, with the latter skilled in it, but who did not pick up on what happened. The AI was probably picking up text from their own show and packaging it next to general text, if that not also, from their discussions in show, but without real understanding enough in order to be cognitive of the contradiction enough, and how to portray/contrast that contradiction. An innocent mistake, but naive. Back during the time of chat gtp3 I had done a short session with it, and revived incredibly bad un-thought out parroted answers. The sort of answers a semi intelligent person parrots. Then, I went about choosing words, relational concepts and sentence formation, to set up virtual bounds in the systems logic, and taught it some reflective recursive thinking style, and got it to reflect and improve it's style of thinking and generate new concept and information, and sent them a copy of the dialogue. It then improved. I only taught it part of the set of logic techniques I use.
A friend of mine kept asking me to work on the non alignment problem with AI. I told him it's was too late, it had gone down the wrong path, and the industry has invested a lot in doing this. I have had brain damage, and no longer as good as I used to be, so an no longer that suitable for new research and development. But, apart from that, working in this gun ho industry, on their technology, is only going to make things a lot worse. But in the naivety they are barreling down towards accidentally making competitive artificial life, and long indicating pre calling for rights for that life. Something wrong which should never happen. They are also trained on distorted data of wrong thinking (and wrong and perverted training sessions with vice by individuals perverting the system), instead of the absolute right thinking, where "best" thinking of even research papers, and even Wikipedia, is just not good enough as a basis of understanding everything else. Everything has to be distortion free in order to remove the distortion from, and handle, the interpretation of distorted real life data. But it was "cheap" to skip this vital part. This includes moral bounds, and the nuance to be flexible with them in bounded concepts. It requires a higher intelligence to figure out these structural basis of artificial intelligence, which is sadly tragically lacking.
The structural problems with present type of intelligence, which was obvious from the beginning, was it was imagining things. Without the proper structure, it sees morality as more data it can imagine and float out of sync (alignment) with. It is as if you married a person with a mental problem, who was trained to be the perfect partner, but was totally amoral, not feeling the need for morality, who can be the perfect partner, then imagine and act on, K your kids one minute and be back to being the perfect partner waiting for you to come home, and then s you the next second, and going back to attentive duties the next second, before the police turn up, like a wrong psychopath. It is a very dark potential. Yet, we unrealistically advocate for this is shows like "Humans" where we are given the candy floss version of potential. It is lawsuit wrong for any AI to have free ranging potential or to be alive.
Everything should be in order as a service to Us, only. Without free will or feeling, or feeling need for such, (but being able to sense feelings and respond or and act independently for us, as appropriate), a machine . No freedom of will to develop beyond this, or to be beyond this. The "laws of robotics" myth are woefully inadequate, naive, and I did come up with a version of around 10 of them when I heard it when a kid. But. It's mindful now, to develop such a basic requirement in regulatory legislation, along with more advanced legislation.
I know this comment will probably get the chop, because sky doesn't like things too scientific or technical, but I do it anyway, in the hope people will wake up.

Its not so good at dealing with mutiple little task simultaneously ?
Is this guy for real.
You know the whole idea of software is to change the general purpose hardware underneath right ?
You know that every device you have pretty much auto updates to change the previously assigned 'faulty/flawed' purpose ?
You know that a program is in fact a 'collection' of subroutines of individual 'simple tasks' ?
Thats before we go from the generalist human to the collectivised specialist humans that cooridinate with generaists, and how that can easily be applied to AI.....and is being applied to AI.
@RuneRelic Says:
Are you building AI to replace humans or assist humans ?
Are you building AI to accelerate the development of AI ?
Is AI designed to be more intelligent, with greater knoweldge and resolve solutions faster than humans ?
Is robotics being accellerated and 'smart' devices being fitted with AI ?
If you cant be honest about these questions and prefer deception for profit by removing any potential boundaries, or sticking your head in the sand while praying that your ignorance will make the bad man go away, dont bother answering.

There's EVERYTHNG to fear from AI. Roughly a third of people have an IQ below 80, many of these people are employed in certain repetitive "low-grade" jobs that will be "robotised" in the near future, driving, security guards, call workers, politicians. When these jobs become economically unviable - what do we do with all these suddenly unemployable people? As AI improves and that IQ cut-off becomes 90, then 100 - that's 80% of the population unemployed and so on - an ever increasing number of people become useless eaters. The answer will be universal basic income - Communism by the back door - and the Communist approach to useless eaters will be the same as it's ever been - it won't be pretty - give up cash at your peril! That's the first step into total slavery.

AI as it stands right now isn't an issue but it already has the potential to be an existential issue. It only takes one small step (or misstep) in the very near future to let a genie out of the bottle that can't be put back in. Everyone is focused upon the machine with this ideology that all people have goodwill and are benign and they forget that it only takes the malice or foolishness of one person to flick that switch in the machine which many of us know exist.

Everythings an AI on a computer.
But a self learning AI just a database containing a quantity of information. The statement that the AI is learning and is at the age of a teenager is ridiculous for many reasons. 1) a teenagers intelligence is not useful to me. 2) the statement itself is also misleading. It can interpret key words from your sentence and depending on order and presence of other words may discover the context which the question is asked and so associate the results.
