President of the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Peter Bongiorni says they are asking for military aid to be sent to Ukraine.
'The Ukrainians are willing to defend themselves, and Ukrainian army is willing to fight, but they need supplies,' he told Sky News Australia.
'We want to see further sanctions, things like Russia being taken out of the swift banking network.'
He is also asking for Australian telecommunication providers to offer free calls for Australians to contact loved ones in Ukraine.
