Why won’t scientists explore other options like static electricity or hydroelectric using the ocean waves?
@SteveBarritt Says:
Why are people in these comments advocating for nuclear before the cost has been presented. Imagine 3x what we are paying now. Nothing against nuclear, but let’s understand the cost first.
@NormanFinkelstein9863 Says:
Its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. We don't need to be further dividing the country over something that is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. when we could be focusing on Cost of Living and fixing Housing affordability. This is a BS distraction to maintain the primacy of Coal & Gas in the face of a challenging period of energy transition.
@franktully3065 Says:
"Too expensive"? When has that EVER bothered ALP/Greens/Teals?
@nathshaw Says:
Typical switch and diversion tactic, answer a question, with another (but completely unrelated) truth, yes solar is dropping in price - the real problem is that electricity cannot be stored at the scale and price needed. Grid-scale batteries at the scale and price needed aren't possible at the moment... For example, the in-construction Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub is estimated to cost ~$2 billion AU, and will only store enough power to power Melbourne city for approx 30 minutes, if it was the sole source of power. Sunset to sunrise in winter, excluding the twilight either side, means at winter solstice, 16 hours of storage is needed, so we'd need 32 (0.5hr periods) x $2b = AUD$64 billion to power Melbourne overnight using a grid-scale battery at today's prices... PLUS the cost of 'solar panels' to charge the thing up. On top of that, the batteries will need replacing in maybe 10-15 years... the solar panels in 25-30. A nuclear power station will run for 80 years. Allegra Spender, that nuclear power plant is looking quiet a lot cheaper than your "prices are falling " solar panels now... Pumped hydro COULD store and the scale at price needed, but could never be done at the scale needed in AU (terrain, water scarcity) .

If renuables are so good why are we paying through the nose for it federally operated nuclear is the best way to secure power for people
@decem_unosquattro9538 Says:
Nuclear is serious base load power unfortunately Australia is broke. We cannot afford nuclear power. The cost and time to build a reactor would be prohibitively expensive. 7 nuclear reactors are completely insane. 1 reactor would be insanely expensive let alone 7 😂 Lol omg these guys have no idea.

Nuclear way to go
@walterolleroch94 Says:
Finland got one recently , even the Greens went along with it over there. , I don t want the Australian landscape littered with turbines and solar panels . solar is only good during the day when we do not need very much power. , and batteries will be a big headache in years to come. . Look at California and Germany for the mess there are in with renewable s.

Solar so cheap why my bill keeps going up!

Nuclear energy for Australia is long overdue. It's a no-brainer. With Australia's massive reserves of Uranium Ore it is only common sense to put it to use. Just do it.

Renewables are an old tech. A bit ironic calling nuclear old
@Olsnedzy Says:
Wrong for Australia right now ? Just after we’ve spent trillions on wind turbines and solar panels. Can’t stand the Teals, they’re as bad ad the greens
@juliuscaesar2583 Says:
No it's not,
@johnmurray8267 Says:
Spender does not represent Australia, just a few Toffs inner city tossers. 100% with Peter Dutton. Get Nuclear on the table and let it compete. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Solar works when the sun shines 24 hrs a day 12 of those hrs the sun dnt shine These renewable nuts want us to live on wind mills batteries and solar panels How much oil does it take to make a electric vehicle Think Container ships run on batteries wind or solar yeah right Oil is hear to stay everything you touch has oil in it Labour and the greens gota go it’s over the fish rots at the head Albo STINKS BAD

@onthehunt518 Says:
All of you politicians against nuclear power will find yourself on the wrong side of history.

@patricksharp1063 Says:
This anti nuclear speaker shows she has little or no understanding of the science, cost or the safety records of nuclear power plants. Thank you Mr Dutton for having balls to break our energy deadlock.
@Azmania3000 Says:
In russia, domestic electricity costs 6 cents (us) per kilowatt hour. Thats the household rate
@davidhamer7820 Says:
pure sophistry. cherry picking rubbish percentages and not including replacement cost, subsidy costs and distribution costs of an all renewable network. Framing the argument as nuclear vs renewable is daft. obviously you use the nuclear stations to provide the base load and disptchable power that allows for the freqeuncy modulation necessary to allow high levels of renewable power to cover peak loads. this isnt one or the other, this is both technologies giving the best result possible, energy security for Australia.
@peterdavis4017 Says:
Silly woman. Keep the coal fired stations going until nuclear on line
@mistersmacky Says:
What does this rich bored housewife know about running a national power grid?
@hughheeney3554 Says:
Independent MP, ah possibly. The reason solar dropped is because people are starting to wake up.
@chrisbeauchamp5563 Says:
Renewable they still have no answer for storage and base load. Nuclear can creat storage (hydrogen) and inherently has base load. I don’t think they are been honest about the cost of renewables perhaps they are cheaper but you have to rebuild every 10-15 years. Nuclear can last a century
@meredithisme3752 Says:
Dutton will get my vote
@awc900 Says:
Not right now, so when? Pouring more and more money into a renewables plan that other industrialised consider unworkable is hardly a great choice.
@alanrainey5022 Says:
Shes talking garbage, if we dont meet targets till 2050 we'll still be 100 years ahead of china.
@gregbonham8437 Says:
Why have my power bill quadrupled you brain dead teal idiot
@alanrainey5022 Says:
Spender is right. Solar or nuclear. Solar is not 24/7 nuclear is. Solar will become the new "nbn" late, over priced and falling short of houses. Nuclear may end overpriced, but will NOT fall short on supply!
@darrylweidenhofer Says:
Coal enough said. Dig it up flog it off but none for us. What would this globalist backed karen know.
@LynMurray-j1z Says:
This woman has no idea about nuclear or the damage being done in country environment because of renewable. City people don’t care about our country

@mickoz9389 Says:
''Nuclear energy is the ‘wrong policy’ for Australia right now'' You, Spender, are the wrong person to comment on this subject as you are being bank-rolled by a renewables investor. Go away!

Georgia Power completed 2 new reactors in the last 2 years. This gives the state of Georgia 6 total reactors that provides 6,000 megawatts of electricity. Thank goodness our future energy production is bolstered by nuclear.
