I do not believe Putin would use nuclear weapons unless he would not have any retaliation as a result. A person like Adolf Hitler might have used these weapons for agressive military strategy of conquest yet Hitler had no family to worry about and was suicidal. Putin on the other hand is a family man with children and family he most likely loves and cares about. He would not want to be responsible for igniting a situation that would destroy the world for their future. If his actions using nuclear weapons were met with a similar response of nuclear weapons use this could easily lead to a continuous strike and counter strike with extremely world destructive consequences. Wars have unpredictable consequences, I doubt imperialistic Japan would have bombed Pearl Harbor if they could see into the future and the end result of what would lead to their unconditional surrender ending World War II.
Trump's claim to end the conflict in Ukraine in one day is little more than bravado based on how he reduced tensions between the U.S. and Russia in his four years as president. Since then the world has changed and diplomacy used during peaceful times will not work during times of war where human lives were sacrificed for a cause that make it extremely difficult to back up from any political ideology that lead into a conflict. So far Biden has done a fairly good job in dealing with the situation at hand.
