My prediction is China will do it properly by dumping a rock dam away from the existing earth dike alignment, blocking the breach completely. Then the breached section can be rebuilt to a stronger standard, like with sheet piles at least to intercept the seepage of water. The outer rock dam could then be removed on completion of the repair. This is a big undertaking with a lot of rock but it does allow an immediate stop to the breach and a flexible time to repair the dike as the outer rock dam isn't interfering with the rebuild of the breached section.
