The entire lead up to the election for the last 4 years has been to beat Biden... if he drops out 4 or 5 months before election day all of that effort will be wasted and the fence sitters will trend back away from Trump. The one thing we can take solace in is that even if they replace Joe with Michelle Obama (not saying it just bc Vivek did; if you play the identity politics and also want a shot at winning, theres literally no other option for them to choose from) the Republican Party and the Trump Movement I feel has been reinvigorated after the assassination attempt.
