Very insightful analysis, however the audio is terrible.
@Pattern-Recognition Says:
- China was key in de-industrialising Brazil. Industry used to be 20% of Brazil's GDP. Now it's 10%. The longterm harm that China has done to Brazil in this respect doesn't seem to be understood in Brazil. This de-industrialising cannot be undone and will harm Brazil for generations - economically and strategically in terms of it's influence as a regional power
- China was key in helping Brazil grow during Lula's first term - with a huge commodities boom. This is what paid Lula's bolsa familia etc. This commodities boom will not happen a second time. Lula won't have this windfall to spread around this time. Agri business may be the exception - but that will be hardly enough.
- It was interesting to see how one-sided the discussion was. Just like with Russia: Brazil has accepted a role as a junior partner and as a dependent partner. If you can call it a partner, at all. Because it is only China calls the shots. Sad to see how much less ambition there is in Brazil compared with the 50s, 60s 70s, even 00s.
