I am an immigrant who just came to australia. It's funny when some right wingers blame us for their problems. Yet, they never blame capitalism and the wealthy for bringing us here to push wages down and push profits and house prices up. They forget that immigration is an important aspect of capitalism, and that business owners and landlords want us here. For me, I love capitalism and the wealthy because they lobbied the government to bring me here :)

But wait! Following Elon Musk's support of Trump, you're going witness Democrats using the government to lash back at SpaceX and Tesla with trivial violations and permits. There will be delayed SpaceX schedules because of them. Mark my words.

Using the New York City subway is more risky than space walks.
@Nanobits Says:
Without risks, we would not be here today. If we stop doing space research because its too risky, then we will fail as a species.

When you open the hatch you go from one spacecraft to four space suits - so four times the risk of a failure, plus the risk that you have some problem closing up the spacecraft and repressurizing it again. It's not trivial, especially with a new suit design.
The civilian/ex-military/nasa thing doesn't mean much. They're all human, and trained is trained.
