Hype train. Hurricanes are nature. They don't kill; buildings kill. I went to the middle of that one in Fort Meyer, parked on top of parking deck. The next day, tried to drive to Sanibel to see if the Spoonbills were present (we don't know how they deal with hurricanes, obviously they do but they're now endangered so we need to know) but the bridge was out. Talked to a drone operator, not enough range. I had somebody with me so couldn't throw in with Fire Dept and help the humans in exchange for doing the birds also. (I am an offshore Captain so I have somewhat relevant skill. At one point, a MacMansion person threw sewer mud at me and implied I was a looter, I presume due to my old Jeep? I calmed as best I could but in the couple years and several storms since, I have a strong feeling what is needed is a bit more California hippie in tune with nature combined with Highschool Marine Corp ROTC wipe your butt with a single square of toilet paper humor. DO build at Vesuvius, or in megatons of a century of underbrush, or in the path of storm surge; I am all for it. These places are beautiful. Just know what nature does and our role in it. When it goes awry; you'll be able to experience it in a valuable way just as you did before the disaster. You can build again, do something different, whatever pleases you. There is no need for trauma. Nature is cool, safety is boring. I keep hearing about this Florida insurance crisis, what in the world?!? There is no crisis, it is a properly competitive industry. Costs are higher because the industry is aware of the role of Anthropogenic Climate Change in risk; probably in greater detail than public science. This is a GOOD thing, that research is extremely expensive. This is the only society on Earth that sufficiently zealotous about liberty at every scale that innovation and competition is possible. If you are experiencing an insurance crisis, the proper insight is that you have too much house in too risky a spot; it isn't corruption or a conspiracy. Have you noticed ALL the storms blow up to Cat5 now when they cross the Gulf? The NOAA models are ALWAYS spot on for trajectory but underestimate heavily the intensity. Why? It's because the models are based on previous hurricanes and climate change is new. NOAA is a Federal Agency, not a consultancy.

I lived in that corner for years. What caused the flood was the two retention ponds behind the mall area, and I went through Hurricane Francis in 2004 and it flooded then on 15th Street from those two ponds, and they had to evacuate the nursing home on 17th street. But it didn't rise up onto Fowler Ave. I don't live far from there I am about a mile from that area now off Florida Ave. I was at a friends house when I saw this report on CNN. It also flooded during Hurricane Charlie too which was before Hurricane Frances. This is not the first RODEO!!!
