As Macron CORRECTLY stated in 2011 "NATO is Brain-Dead" ... Would Article 5 be invokeded in 2014 even if Ukraine had joined NATO in 1993? Absolutely not... Obama & Merkel had other problems in hand. However signing Ukraine up to NATO is a banking-economic prerequisite for future growth ! Ukraine should accept territory loss, in return for NATO participation.

However i am pretty sure ukraine will only accept this if they can join nato
This would be a very good situation for ukraine yes u will have significant territory loss however u will have future security since u will be part of nato
It will also be good for russia mainly for putin. He can claim he protected russian speaking people in ukraine and had some territory gains
The long term effect on russia will still be bad
Although the same can be said for ukraine
However i do belive ukraine can quickly recover if it continues to get western economic support
