i think that if every government can just take the 3 months before every American election off, something is wonky in European Union policy. if there won't be news from america for the next three whole months, why is the west still suffocating Middle East, African and Chinese diplomacy?

NATO cannot confirm reports about North Korean military personnel allegedly fighting alongside Russian forces in the Ukraine conflict, Mark Rutte, the U.S.-led bloc’s secretary general, has said. Rutte was asked by the National News Agency of Ukraine at a press briefing on Wednesday to verify such reports, to which he responded: “I cannot confirm these reports.”
The Russian armed forces have successfully moved their troops in the Donetsk region, reaching the city of Toretsk. This information was confirmed on Tuesday by Anastasiya Bobovnikova, the spokeswoman for the Luhansk Operational Group, on Ukrainian television.
The Ukrainian project DeepState updated their map today, indicating that the Russian forces is advancing in Toretsk. Unfortunately, I must confirm that this is true. The Russian forces employ a particular tactic: using artillery to destroy the city and its neighborhoods. In Toretsk, it's not just that there are no intact houses—there are entire neighborhoods that no longer exist. They move through and entrench themselves where there's no place to hide, no shelters, nothing, reported the spokeswoman.
Bobovnikova emphasized that the damage in the city is enormous due to intense Russian shelling. "You might have previously seen footage from the 5th Assault Brigade in Chasiv Yar, but in reality, Toretsk looks even worse. The Russian forces is trying to destroy neighborhoods and advance where nothing remains," she added. The situation in Chasiv Yar is also difficult.
Ukrainian Defense Forces can be forced to leave Selydove soon — Bild. Many villages around Selydove have already been captured by Russian forces, and they continue to advance, Röpcke noted. While Ukraine's Kara-Dag 15th National Guard Brigade is effectively defending the city, it is now surrounded on three sides, Bild reported. "Kara-Dag is doing an excellent job defending the city, but neighboring Ukrainian units are struggling," analytic acknowledged.
"So, despite the brave defenders, the city will fall. This was my impression when I visited Kara-Dag's position in the area four weeks ago."
Since September 2024, military analysts have been warning about the threat of Ukrainian forces being encircled in Selydove, Donetsk Oblast.
The Institute for the Study of War's report on Oct. 11 mentioned that Russian forces had advanced to a cement plant east of Selydove and had likely cut off two of the five roads leading out of the city.
Ukraine on the edge as Russian forces gets closer - Russia has reclaimed half of the Kursk region, a Russian territory where Ukrainian troops had made a breakthrough several months ago.
Over the weekend, several Russian and Ukrainian war bloggers reported that Russian forces had broken through Ukraine’s defensive lines.
Despite this, Zelenskyy recently claimed that his troops are holding strong in the Kursk region.
Some experts have suggested that seasonal rains have turned the ground into mud, giving Russia a significant advantage as its forces rely more heavily on tracked vehicles compared to their opponents.
Kyiv Independent - Russia ramps up attacks in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Will there be a large-scale offensive? Fears of a larger Russian offensive in Zaporizhzhia Oblast are growing as Russian forces have reportedly made progress along the border between Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts and intensified air strikes on the regional capital.
"If they achieve a breakthrough, Russia will be able to fire at logistical routes connecting Zaporizhzhia to the east of Ukraine," Southern Defense Forces spokesperson Vladyslav Voloshyn said earlier this month in response to reports of Russian forces amassing for a breakthrough in the direction of Orikhiv and Mala Tokmachka, around 50 kilometers southeast of Zaporizhzhia.
Having a significant advantage in troops and weapons, Russia is showing no signs of abandoning its goal of seizing more Ukrainian territory.
AFU Losses [by Western sources]: This is a Bomb: according to Western estimates, the losses of the AFU since the beginning of the SMO reach 1.8 million people, of which 780 thousand were killed. For June - mid October: 265,000 from which 45,000 have been killed. It is noted that the losses of the AFU from June to mid-October 2024 were significant and stunning: up to 55,000 - 65,000 people every month. Such losses are intolerable, no army can withstand such losses for a long time.

We have people in the U.S. who think like Russians and think we have the right to torture. The Cheneys support water boarding. They say it's not torture so why is it applied? As a refreshing treat?
