Any chance of mass surrender? Likely not. I'm sure they aren't sending orphans. They are sending guys who have been told there's a bullet for each of family members unless they come back (one way or another). I cannot imagine what a hell-on-Earth being a North Korean must be.

NK may not have combat experience but they are very good engineers, and Russia needs that expertise because it is not their strong suit. Plus the reserves are essentially bottomless in NK so perhaps at some point they will front-line them (I mean like, a long time from now, as a "Plan C" type of situation for Putin) to absorb bullets.
It is interesting that Russian escalation is adding Hessians (Amer Revolution ref) or essentially armies-for-hire, whereas the Ukraine version of escalation is going to be adding weapon's systems.
I only ever feel sorry for North Korean people. While Russians have some agency, these poor guys are well-and-truly little more than programmed automations who never had a chance.
