Ukraine joining NATO was not in the plan or part of the negotiation it was about Ukraine acknowledging the annex region as Russian state.
It is not in the interest of Russia for Ukraine to join NATO and Russia will continue to deepen the conflict so as to discourage NATO from inviting ukrain. But if Kyiv insists then there would be another negotiation which may see only western Ukraine joining NATO so as to create a buffer.
