Korea's democratic institutions protected its democracy from a clown, but unfortunately Korea's electoral process doesn't protect it from clowns getting elected. Some believe Yoon was backed by Washington. It's plausible given the slim margins. Yoon is a pro-Washington stooge.

I am a Korean. The pro-North Korean left wing opponent party cut the budget of national prosecutor office and tries to impeach the prosecutors they don't like. The party also tries to impeach the head of The Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea. Clearly political move. That's the DIRECT REASON. Unpopularity is NOT the exact reason. P.S. The president was a prosecutor and then became the president through the election. I guess, in high possibility, the left-wing could drive this Marshall Law from Yoon and Yoon would be the victim of the tactic even though there is no evidence about it. The opponent party has hard tried to impeach Yoon FROM HIS ELECTION. Yoon's act was totally unprepared and very sporadic. Even close staffs did not know. This explains how he was emotionally upset by the opponent party. I don't think this is a big chaos in Korea. So, don't worry much. Anyway, he did mistake. Majority Koreans think that way as his cabinet staffs, ruling party members also disagreed and opposed his move already. Only two guys, the president and the Minister of Defense did this.
