The price of food and non-alcoholic beverages in South Africa rose 6 percent in April compared with a year earlier, according to new figures released by the country's national statistics agency- Statistics South Africa on Wednesday. Grain SA Chairperson Derek Matthews said in an interview with China Media Group that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has already had a major impact on food and fertilizer prices.

Wheat has already become scarcer each day. Supermarkets in the EU are limiting the purchase of wheat flour to one per customer as the stock of wheat is depleting. Mariupol has fallen into the hands of Russia and the wheat transport from the port of Odessa has stopped. The Europeans are facing a dire situation in the coming months.
