Leaked Macron text could cost Australia 'candid' communication with foreign leaders

????

The leaked text message between Scott Morrison and Emmanuel Macron about the submarine deal could cost Australia future candid exchanges of communication between foreign leaders and the Prime Minister, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. It comes as a leaked private text message, believed to have been leaked by Mr Morrison's office to show Mr Macron actually knew about the agreement, was published in The Daily Telegraph on Monday evening. The text message appeared to cast doubt on the French claim that they were blindsided by the AUKUS partnership. The French ambassador responded angrily calling it an unprecedented low in the relationship and warning about the consequences this could have on other foreign allies. "Some senior government figures have raised their eyebrows on this to me and conceded it was a mistake and could cost Australia in (the) future in terms of foreign leaders wanting to be candid by message to the Prime Minister," Mr Clennell said.
