Australian beef exporters are on alert after rumours Beijing was on the verge of imposing an industry-wide ban on the importation of meat to China.
A Chinese media report on Monday warned imports of Australian meat, grain, dairy and other agricultural products had been suspended due to a threat of foot and mouth disease.
Australian officials and industry sources are assuring producers those rumours are incorrect.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did not comment on the validity of any ban but pointed to existing sanctions on other goods like barley and wine.
