Former Liberal MP Dave Sharma says he thinks US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan was ill-advised and has had a lot of unintended consequences, which has worsened Taiwan's strategic position.
'Nancy Pelosi's visit was an attempt if you like to increase Taiwan's legitimacy in the eyes of the international community,' he told Sky News Australia.
'But China's response ... to her attempt to alter the status quo has left Taiwan in a worse position.'
