The US Navy is working to recover parts of what the White House says is a spy balloon from China, after the object was shot down off the Carolina coast.
All senators are expected to receive a briefing on the balloon next week.
Congress to Biden:

This balloon has been confirmed twice in the Tohoku region of Japan in the past.
It was sighted over Sendai City in June 2020 and over Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture in September 2021.
In Japan, it is analyzed that it flew from the base in Dalian, China.
The U.S. Air Force, stationed nearby Misawa Air Base, also shares this data. The balloon observed in Japan has two propellers and a cross-shaped solar panel suspended from it, and seems to be steerable.
