Queensland Health Minister defends mandatory PCR tests for interstate travellers

????

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath expects daily COVID figures to increase in the coming days after Christmas but believes the spread would have been worse if it wasn't for the state's strict border controls. Ms D'Ath revealed at least two young people who were due to arrive from interstate on Christmas Eve returned COVID positive results from mandatory PCR tests. It comes as the Sunshine state reported a record 765 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours. 'Now, at least one of these young people were going to be joining a big family gathering today of 25 to 30 family members,' she said. 'At least one of those family members is over the age of 90, and another one is a newborn baby, only days old. 'Those family members have been protected from having a positive case gathering with them because of that PCR test.'
