You csn start by making it law that any criminal regardless of age . can not be given bail on more than one occasion.
How many times do the police arrest an offender only for the court's to release them on bail & they almost immediately reoffend .
This is the problem here .
The police are doing there jobs as good as they can be expected.
It the juvenile justice system that the issue by allowing them to repeatedly get bail .
Every person i talk to agree that the young offenders are taking advantage of their age to know better laws that protect them .
The young criminals know exactly what they are doing & they know they will be back home before the arresting officer has even finished filling the event report over their arrest .
This is also a reason police officer's don't stay in the career.
Its because they get the feeling its all a waist if time & their hard work is all for nothing when the person they arrested does it over & over & over , again & again & again .
They remain as police officers right up until the point where someone they have tried so hard to lock away to prevent them harming anyone eventually after being bailed over & over kills any innocent civilian .
There's the true heart & guts of the youth problem minister now fix it.

There is a very strong relationship between domestic violence and youth crime on the streets at night. Kids dont feel safe at home, so they prowl in gangs then exert this feeling of empowerment in violence, car theft, hoon driving and vandalism.
Part of the solution may be improving the domestic situations so that kids do stay home all night and not drop into roving, nocturnal gangs.
Miles also makes a point about the police helicopter for Townsville. I haven't seen it yet. Years ago when the Qld Parliament held their roving regional sitting in Townsville, they became protective of their helicopter propositon. The LNP questioned them about why was it costing so much when the police only requested a small observational copter fitted with night vision; the Labor response was that it was needed for rescue and multipurpse operations that far exceeded the low cost alternatives.... I suspect we now have a large, noisy, expensive to run beast that will never achieve covert surveillance needs.

In the end he can only go off recommendations that the police have put forward as that’s their forte. This whole country is too soft, that doesn’t look like it’s going to change.. these kids committing the crimes are from disadvantaged families so they need special treatment blah blah… they need to cut off or drastically reduce Centrelink entitlements to the parents responsible for these kids, maybe that might make them think twice about letting Johnny roam the streets at night.. I’m sure you can bet 99% of these kids are coming from families relying completely on Centrelink benefits and have never worked a day in their life..
