IMO - one of two things happened here.
1) she got mad at the dog because it misbehaved and killed chickens ("real" rural farm folks don't lose their minds over a dog killing some chickens). In her anger and embarrassment, she lost it and killed the dog.
2) the whole story is a lie just like the other story in the book about her meeting Kim Jong Un and staring him down.
