Any government is, in the end, just a complicated business one that specifically has a monopoly on the creation or distribution of currency, legal system and violence. Any person that pays taxes is in fact an (forced) investor of this company and despite the people being the majority investor as it is not just their taxes but also their labor that makes the economy function we just don't get the returns one would expect. When we talk about investment in the private sector most investors won't even bother unless there is a return of investment of 5~10%+. Why should we, the people, settle for anything less and above all why should we settle for a loss on all our invested time and labor?
Somehow a relatively small group of people have convinced the western citizens that by sacrificing their labor without return on that investment is freedom or democracy while it is clearly neither. What we do now just hurts all western citizens, our cities, our homes, our children and our future as we continue antagonize each other and the rest of the world. The EU especially is going to make a hard choice join the US and go down with the ship or join not just China but the majority of the rest of the world and be on the right side of history.
