Hope Hicks would have been thinking about what she was going to say on the stand *days before*, and likely rehearsing what she thought she should and shouldn't say, the risks for telling the truth, for perjury, and weighing out the possible repercussions against her by Trump, etc. It's a big moment, and I doubt anyone in her position would be able to just push it out of their minds about what they were likely to be asked until the moment they were sworn in to testify. She didn't "realize" anything. She knew what she was going to say and crying her way through it so the former president would feel sorry for her.
