The employers are allowed to call, the employees are allowed to ignore DEPENDING on whether or not they are in a senior roll, if its an emergency, ect ect. its a dumb law, but its not going to make people lose jobs. what its going to do is make employees think they can ignore EVERY call. and when they get in trouble/lose their job for ignoring a reasonable call, they'll take their boss to court and lose.

I personally don’t want my employer contacting me after hours. Once I finish my work day, that’s it. Any problems can wait until the next day.

Off hours emails is nothing but racist white supremacist supervisors (bwana’s) trying to make employees slave over work on their own leisure time .

It is ridiculous to be available to a boss 24 hours a day. No! If one is hired to do a particular job from 9 to 5 then that is is, finished. If the boss is a Asperger/ ADHD person, he just has to learn to turn off him; no need for employees to be turned into wrecks as if they are zombies with no family life.

Employees should not be contacted outside work hours. Maybe I'm showing my age, but there was a time when most people had the weekends off.

It "may" also end up with better job satisfaction and retaining employees, Ash. At the very least it will stop employers underpaying their staff for work outside of hours. ;)

Retired now. I have had several bosses over the years abuse their position of power with threats of sacking me if I didn't comply to their unreasonably requirements. Eg, ringing me up in the evening and demanding a report being on their table first thing in the morning, calling me back to work from annual leave while I was away down the coast and excessive work hours. Unfortunately most people can't immediately walk away from a bad employer and have to suck it up until they can find a better situation

Don't employ cretins that work for unions. Employ people who are their own people.
@dogsy273 Says:
What a bulshit level of interference between people doing their jobs. If you don't want to pickup don't. If your a shit employee or employer, don't work together to start with.
@graemekeeley4497 Says:
This law is idiotic Most ordinary workers and employers have their own personal agreements as to how they contact each other, no laws will change that Union orientated Public Service jobs do little contacting by phone
