It's really too bad that Biden was in a position where half the country wasn't supporting him (just as Putin/trump arranged). Or he could have said to Putin at the start of this: Remember we were considering Ukraine for admission into NATO?? Well we just decided to accept them. Back the F off or we'll end this in a week without any of our soldiers every leaving home. Unfortunately, in the political climate created by Putin/trump, no matter what Biden does, he's under attack. So he thought if he promised not to send USA troops, he could support financially/sanctions without too much blowback. It was a mistake. Art of war says you NEVER tell your enemy what you are planning to do. (Or what you're NOT going to do). That statement that may have worked to calm down fox news at a press conference, but it gave Putin permission to pummel Ukraine into oblivion.
