Being saying for ages we need to separate the various Police forces from the government of the day. Governments should provide two things to the Police, a budget and any changes to the Laws that Police ask for and can justify. Government's should have no power over Commissioners nor be able to have influence the day to day running of the Police. The Cops are there to enforce the law without favour, nothing more or less. The Cops at the moment have become an arm of Lefty governments and that terrifies me.
