I will never understand rich kids just out of high school traveling over 7000 km just to get f****d up in a third world country. What happened to getting drunk in a field?

That's trouble about us Australian's we can do whatever we want in our own country, and we can, ....but unfortunately other countries aren't like us, some of them are evil. 😢🖤🖤🖤
@MIRANDAeatsgrass Says:
A lot of comments sayung they should have known better, done research etc. Does NOT mean they deserved to lose their life. It definitely means whoever is serving methanol is the scum of the earth. They deserved to have fun and come home safe

@ASmith-uv4vd Says:
Why are the local channels got comments turned off ?
This is really really sad and highlights the dangers of travelling - i was lucky to get home many years ago . Maybe the government needs to lift the passport age or at least increase awareness of the dangers - serious pre passport education as its not going to get safer .

So much mis information coming from these media sources with their camera crews in Thailand ...a different country to where it actually happened. Filming a clip of a local bar in Bangkok full of what looks like Poms is totally nothing like a rural ramshackle bar thrown up by the locals in the 3rd world farming country of Laos ..but credit to News 10 for keeping their comments section open for feedback .. unlike News 7 and News 9 who have closed off comments ..so we can't expose their weak ass 'reporting'. A companies/peoples actions tell you so much more about them than their words..
Sky News, you may be lacking in accuracy but in this day and age, I applaud you for keeping the comments section open.
Lets establish some background facts here, lets get some truth, that all the journo's covering this seem incompetent or inept at establishing; facts from a person (me) who has spent an extended time travelling the whole country of Laos whilst immersing myself in the culture.
Laos is a country neighbouring Thailand, its an almost 3rd world, communist rural farming country with amazingly friendly and genuine people. It's not a tourist destination, rather its on the barely beaten track of a South East Asia adventure for back packers. In Laos you walk past fields of local women in traditional wicker pointy hats working the rice fields with week old babies in wicker back slings. Your living and breathing an episode of National Geographic.
The locals have a home brew spirit called Lao Lao ..its crazy potent and brewed in a bucket in their back yards. The 'high end' bottles have scorpions and cobra's 'pickled' in them. Those are the show pieces, the ones brought out for special occasions. Even the hardened Lao Lao drinking locals struggle with the hangovers of the scorpion/cobra ones .. and why its seen as a test of manhood to drink it. ..women are welcome to join in the fun too.
Anybody who knows distilling knows that different substances are drawn off at different temperatures and if the back garden distiller reads his thermometer wrong that methanol will be drawn off. I wasn't there at the time, but knowing the culture, knowing the drink, I'm pretty sure a non malicious but deadly batch has been accidently brewed and has claimed victims; no spiking involved.
I believe the deaths are from a tragic accident.
Laos is not Thailand, Laos is a neighbouring country so reporters standing on roofs in Thailand claiming to know what they're talking about when they don't have a clue is absolutely ridiculous. I see it no different than an American standing on a roof in Auckland New Zealand reporting on a poisoning in Torres Strait Islands.
How can you claim to know facts when your not even in the country never mind the town/village your reporting on? Local culture plays a huge part in this story of likely misadventure and not malicious murder.
This kind or reporting could kill the tourist trade of an entire country. A poor country.

Very sad, I'm glad I couldn't afford to have a gap year and had to work for 3-4 years first......foreign backpacking/travelling with a bit more life experience was/is really valuable.

But good news everyone. Albo and Penny will invite more ‘people’ from third world lovely countries to stay in Australia.
How will we become a third world nation without third world inhabitants?

Tragic!
Regrettably, so many young Australians venturing into SEAsia do so unprepared for what they will encounter. Inexperience and naivity play a major role in most unfortunate and dangerous situations.
