On May 16, the India's capital New Delhi reeled under heatwaves with temperatures reaching as high as 49 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). It is experiencing the hottest May temperatures since 1966. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a shortfall in the rain is one of the biggest reasons for high temperatures.
