Kids have a hard time hearing criticism. They only like your free speech if they agree with it. What a generation of clowns we have in the West.

He gives good takes at times, but other times, Fareed Zaharia is like a different flavor of John Bolton. Fear mongering to Bolton's war mongering.

Maybe you should attend the protests before commenting on them. Most people that have seen these protests in person have a lot of praise for the students and their organized goals and non-violent principles. By in large, the main issues have been police and the stupid behavior of university leadership. the truth is that the news content generators like Fareed are living online more than interacting with real people and doing real journalism.

MSM lost so badly with its pro Israel narrative that now it spews nonsense . I would say a meltdown

This is hilariously off target, in a “ok gramps go back to playing sudoku” kind of way

Nonsenses. Outrage grows because Israel commits terrorism, uses food as a weapon and destroys all of Gaza with US weapons while our leaders take photos smiling with Netanyahu.

He wants to keep his job. He sees 5 lights and says there are only 4 because he has to. Honestly, I feel so foolish thinking I looked up to him and took his insights as something to think about. Both he and Bill Mahr had a real opportunity to look power in the eye and call out what is actually happening underneath. Each has a version of politically incorrect that drive their audience interest. There is a bigger picture here. He is both kowtowing to his bosses and setting the stage for what Modi is planning in India. This is the face of a man who knows what is happening, where the money is being funneled and is not motivated to tell the full story. I especially feel sorry for Americans who had to pay the price for their elite to get their way in that part of the world. Its so sad this man values his job over the negative impact the yoke has over the country.

@janicelee4534 Says:
If Israel were to agree to an unconditional ceasefire and two state solution, would Hamas stop? NO! Of course not. The Hamas charter calls for the extermination of Israel. The Palestinians have been offered a two-state solution many times and rejected the offers each time. The Palestinians have VIOLATED cease fires routinely. Given the change, HAMAS WILL CONTINUE VIOLENCE. It is wholly naive to believe just because Hamas is losing that they would stop and it is wholly STUPID to believe Hamas is the victim. Israel has a right to defend itself and the US is right to support them. The only reason other Arab countries have finally sought peace with Israel is because Israel stopped them. Since the beginning of Israel, they have fought of repeated attacks from Arab countries. To say Israel is as evil as North Korea is simply disingenuous. The Columbia professor is completely dishonest.

It’s because of the type of thinking displayed here by Zakaria that college campuses are so fucked up.
@paulinskipukprogressive4903 Says:
Utterly bizarre off-topic analysis
@puneetsingh70 Says:
Colleges represent young minds thinking, speaking, acting. So get over analysing them as if something has gone wrong. What's changed is you have aged. You speak to their actions as if they are committing a mistake or crime. And look for the new social media as reason for why their behaviour, as if they do not think or understand.
@idontknow472 Says:
I agreee with him.
@djondole9003 Says:
This 'cry in the wilderness' is nothing new... Are intellectuals now claiming to also profess knowledge of the heaven and hell they (themselves) created? Because I am 'finally' beginning to sense the perversity of the latest protest (or rebellion)!

I like and respect Fareed in general. How can you analyze a communal activity of Jewish and Arab students protesting together, showing passion for what they believe in (regardless of your take on this), and determine they don’t have a sense of community. Let’s face it, the ‘good old days’ are what brought us to this point in history. Also, speaking g of disengagement, technology created and/or accelerated this: focusing on phones to communicate, the Covid affect of keeping people from congregating, which led to on-line courses and. Jobs that still proliferate. So, it’s complicated…..
@user-wj1hc4dd2m Says:
Where is your take this week Fareed? Are you afraid of offending your pro-israel friends? You don't have the courage to tell the truth about Gaza because you only care about your cushy position at CNN.
@karenabrams8986 Says:
There is a utility for social disengagement. Not participating in social groups that have gotten more toxic over the decades now due to poor culture coming from the top of the organizations would be the healthiest choice for anyone.
@alahiri22 Says:
Also, you can join the college community only if you are a leftist
@MarcioSouza1 Says:
Damn. I’ve always really appreciated Fareeds takes. I know his informed and nuanced, so this can’t be ignorance, just his preference and or attempt to help manufacture consent. Truly sad 😢
@Mncrr Says:
Thanks to leftist professors.
@lat5906 Says:
I love how these goofs on the left tell you trump is authoritarian. This administration has.been more authoritarian than anything we’ve seen in a long time. They’re fine always criticizing America, but criticize another country’s policy is taboo. They’re nuts on the left.
@ms.l643 Says:
And when Fareed was in college, students were not protesting Israeli atrocities and war crimes.
@sormehdeh7382 Says:

@thesleepingpolicemen Says:
Church attendance is declining, but what about Mosque attendance, Temple attendance, or any other communal service attendance from any other religion that's not Christianity? How about reporting on those numbers? I don't think they are going down; if anything from what I've seen they are increasing, precisely because of what's happening in Gaza and the West Bank. These protests certainly show community on a national, global and humanitarian scale. Palestine finally cracks through the public consciousness, and it's still not good enough. No issue worth fighting for in terms of justice for the oppressed was never polarizing or safe, including: the Civil Rights movement, Vietnam, apartheid (Zakariah, for the record, in his Yale days was against the antiapartheid student movement and later a mentee and promoter of Samuel Huntington-- the "clash of civilizations" guy...yeah, no thanks) or WW2, especially when confronted by the goliath of corporate American interests and it's alliances with the media class. Some of this 'take' rings true with regards to student isolation, but most of it sounds like a dismissive, status quo promoting, Uncle Tom bit to me. Then again, it's CNN, so no surprise. Their bread and butter is the military industrial complex and the shitstorm it bolsters and promotes. How else are you gonna sustain a 24-hour news cycle? I give Fareed Zakaria's take a C- and a D for effort.
@user-commnsense614 Says:
Hilarious ... ha ha ha. As you sow, so you reap. Severe Identity crisis/a confused form of multiculturism/sectarianism taking root etc ... is what the West has got for listening to leftists (most of whom are not 'liberals' in the true sense of the word) and pretending that everything is ok. (The right wing has dirt under their nails too.) The West (Europe, UK, Canada, US etc) will be dealing with this mess for the next 25 years MINIMUM. Good luck! Unfortunately, the time for conversation is over ... the end result of this chaos in western countries will be sectarian conflict. Future Yugoslavias in the making.
