In fact, while Dad is fed and housed institutionally at the taxpayer’s expense, Mum and the kids are the ones who must turn to charity for their rent and grocery bills.
There is a solution. Every domestic violence order should start with a requirement that the perpetrator must relocate at least 200 kms from the victim. He will still have to pay for the family’s living expenses. However, when he gets home after a hard day at work — or with a skinful of Dutch Courage — Mum and the kids won’t be there for him to vent his frustration.

If we are talking about domestic violence what about the men and the children that suffer this as well we never hear about them as much as we do women. Boys and girls in the media, take a step back and consider the jail situation and you may find the answer why repeat offenders keep getting bail. You media folks may not be asking the right question, perhaps not even to the right people. Hint: ask about the vacancy situation in our jails, would there be enough room in out jails if every repeat offender was not granted bail? You need to ask these questions to folks who know the answers. When I studied tax law cases at uni (many moons ago) and a horse trainer and gambler set up his business which met all 5 business tests for tax deductibility, the court held that gambling losses were not tax deductible. Go figure, meet the business test but can't deduct the expenses - a legal decision or a political decision by the court?
