Notice when Mr. Wang Gang said “Mandarin”, the French gentleman was careful to say “Chinese”. On Wikipedia, China has one official language: Chinese, 中文; Taiwan has two: Chinese and Mandarin 國語. In the USA, middle and high schools have Mandarin classes and Mandarin scholastic tests. US universities however have Chinese classes not Mandarin. Hong Kong and Singapore have Putonghua classes.

Unfortunately, I don't trust Macron or any of the current crop of Western leaders. Macron seems to say whatever he thinks his immediate "audience" wants to hear, so his messages & actions can change dramatically from day to day. At the moment, he is one of the leading European "hawks" when it comes to Russia, talking about sending French troops into Ukraine. However, before the current iteration of the Ukraine crisis exploded in February 2022, he seemed to be a lone voice of reason & moderation in Europe, phoning Putin, talking to the Russians, seemingly trying to find a solution to avoid war. Since then, he has gone along with every US/NATO move, irrespective of the negative consequences for Europe: every sanctions package against Russia, unlimited financial & military aid for Ukraine, not a murmur of protest over the destruction of a piece of major European civilian infrastructure, the Nordstream gas pipelines. Like nearly every other European leader, I believe that when "push comes to shove", he will likely go along with whatever the US demands of Europe in relation to China, which will ultimately be import tariffs, other trade barriers, sanctions, & ultimately another US/NATO/AUKUS proxy war with China, probably using Taiwan as "Chief Proxy". All this talk about European "strategic autonomy" will, in the end, be just that: "talk"! As with Russia, so with China. But I'm sure the Chinese authorities aren't so naive that they don't know this already.

Wang would like to mention a particular instance from one of your interviews in France. When a French individual accused China of espionage, you responded by highlighting that America is known to engage in extensive surveillance activities, including spying on the former German chancellor for an extended period. Your fluency in English and your assertiveness in addressing such matters are commendable. It is important to continue speaking out against dishonest and envious individuals from the Western world who resort to deceptive tactics. Your courage in confronting these falsehoods is appreciated and should be upheld.
