I went and saw this film when it came out being an Ang Lee fan and open to seeing something different (ala a gay romance), but the love felt a little forced (and was a little aggressive) while their wives and supposed marriages unfortunately came a distant second to their self-focussed/obsessed lust and unfortunate inability to accept themselves. It was a sad and well made film and I was certainly empathetic to them to some degree as someone who isn't gay but probably not as much as the folks who made and sold it hoped I'd be.
